The purpose of this Compendium is to draw Members and private sector’s attention to the various aspects to be taken into consideration when discussing the development of a secure and efficient transit system. Indeed, transport costs are a key determinant of international trade  competitiveness because they affect in a signifi cative way the costs engaged, and as a consequence the economic growth of all countries, particularly developing countries.
Therefore, the present issue highlights the importance of efficient transit systems in trade and in sustainable development.
